The New York Times, citing a source in the authorities in Kiev, wrote that Monday’s explosions in Russia were the result of an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Ukraine. According to the daily, this is the first such demonstration of Kiev’s operational capabilities and “the most daring Ukrainian operation since the beginning of the war.”
The Kremlin said on Monday there were two drone attacks on airports near Ryazan and Engels, in the European part of the country, several hundred kilometers from the Ukrainian border. In Engels, two Tu-95 heavy bombers were to be damaged, and in Diaghilev, three people were to die when a fuel tank exploded.
The Ukrainian side has not officially confirmed its connection with these events. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat, referring to the explosions, said that “this is a wake-up call for Russia“. He noted that “explosions are happening more and more often in Russia.” – Russians now have to scratch their heads and think about who did it, how it happened. And find the culprits. Perhaps it will take some time – said Ihnat, quoted by UNIAN agency, while the adviser to the president of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolak, tweeted: “The earth is round, Galileo has already discovered it. However, astronomy was not studied in the Kremlin, giving priority to court astrologers. For if they had studied, then they would have known: if you shoot something into the airspace of other countries, sooner or later unknown flying objects will return to the starting point.
“The first demonstration of Kiev’s operational capabilities of this kind”
The New York Times, citing a representative of the Ukrainian administration, wrote that the unmanned aerial vehicles were launched from the territory Ukraine. At least one of these attacks was carried out by special forces that helped guide drones to targets in Russia. The machines took off from the vicinity of the base of the Ukrainian “specialists” – added “NYT”.
Airstrikes on Russian targets have proven that Ukraine is ready to strike distant targets in enemy territory as well, which changes the dynamics of the war. This is the first demonstration of Kiev’s operational capabilities of this kind.
