Russia: Su-27 fighter exercises over the Baltic Sea

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday morning that tactical exercises of Russian fighter jets over the Baltic Sea were underway. The Ministry emphasized that their main goal is “to check the readiness to perform combat operations and special tasks”.

“The crews of the Baltic Fleet’s Su-27 fighters fired at cruise missiles and planes pretending to be enemy machines,” the ministry said on Telegram.

The ministry said that “the main purpose of the exercises is to check the readiness of the air crew to perform combat and special tasks”, as well as “practical development of new tactics and methods of operation with full use of the combat capabilities of aviation equipment”.

“In addition to improving aviation skills, the crews of highly maneuverable Su-27 fighters perform round-the-clock combat duty, guarding the air borders of the Kaliningrad region,” the entry reads.
