We are looking at other options, but Russia’s withdrawal from the grain initiative is likely to have a chilling effect on Ukraine’s grain exports, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

“Ukrainians, we and others will be looking at whether there are any other options, but the challenge is: if Russia ends this initiative and sends a signal that grain and other foodstuffs cannot leave Ukraineeven if there are other options, it will have a profound chilling effect, Blinken said at a press briefing in Washington.

He added that Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative would raise concerns among other countries and companies interested in buying and shipping grain about the security and predictability of supplies, which was the point of the initiative.

“We will look at what else we can do to bring Ukrainian food to the market, including – as Ukraine has already done – by rail and road transport,” Blinken said. He condemned Russia’s move as cruel to countries that need Ukrainian grain.

“I hope every country is looking very closely at this and sees that Russia is responsible for depriving people who desperately need it around the world and contributing to rising prices at a time when many countries are still experiencing difficult inflation – said the minister.

The chief of US diplomacy also confirmed during the briefing that United States on his way to and from Paraguay, the Vice President will visit Taiwan. Blinken appealed to China not to use this “routine” US transit as a pretext for escalation.
