Russia, Ukrainian forces storm women's penal colony in Kursk region

In a women's penal colony in the village of Mala Loknya in Kursk region, a group of Russian soldiers have set up firing positions. The building is being stormed by Ukrainian forces, media in Kiev reported.

The village of Mała Łoknia is located 14 km from the border with Ukraine. Prison turned into a “fortress”

The building of penal colony number 11 in Mala Łoknia also appears in a recording by the Ukrainian 95th Independent Air Assault Brigade, whose soldiers are fighting near the town, although it is not dedicated specifically to this event.

“The Russian military has turned women's penal colony no. 11 into a fortress and is putting up fierce resistance. Prison guards are probably among those defending themselves,” wrote “Bild.” It added that several dozen Russian soldiers have also fortified themselves around the colony, erecting barricades and using watchtowers as firing positions and buildings as protection against Ukrainian attacks.

Reports of an assault have not been officially confirmed by Ukrainian forces.

According to pro-Kremlin bloggers, Mala Loknia has been surrounded by Ukrainian troops. It is not yet known how many convicted women are still in the penal colony there, wrote the portal Ukrayinska Pravda.

The Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region continues. According to the authorities in Kiev, Ukrainian forces control 1,263 square kilometers in the border region, including 93 settlements.
