It was the day of Putin’s great disgrace – this is how Yevgeny Prigozhin’s rebellion in Russia was commented on by General Bogusław Pacek in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24. Doctor Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, former Polish ambassador to Moscow, said that “this situation showed a gigantic split and weakness of this regime.”

On Monday, the press service of the head of the mercenary Wagner Group published a recording of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s speech. In it, he stated that his goal was not to overthrow the authorities in the Kremlin, but to protest against the ineffective conduct of Russian forces war in Ukraine. Prigozhin’s whereabouts are still unknown.

Monday’s recording of the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, on the Telegram channel is the first news published by his press service after Saturday’s failed rebellion.

The internal situation in Russia commented in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 Bogusław Pacek, retired Major General, representative of the Jagiellonian University, director of the Institute of Security and International Development and Dr. Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, former Polish ambassador in Moscow, director of the Strategies 2050 Institute, head of the Polish election staff 2050.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz: it is certainly not that Prigozhin acted alone

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz said that “this situation showed a gigantic split within the regime and the weakness of this regime as a whole.”

In her opinion, Prigozhin “certainly could not have acted alone.” – I have no doubt that the services, that the FSB, (…), had to know about it – she added.

It’s definitely not like he acted alone. He was working with someone who is also part of this regime. We know that there is a huge competition between the FSB and the military, these divisions are huge – she continued.

“Putin has made it clear that he does not control his power, he does not control the power sectors, he does not control security in Russia,” said the former Polish ambassador to Moscow. She added that now “Russian society saw it and the main actors on the international stage saw it, such as Xi, like Erdogan, people who considered him a strong leader.”

According to Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Putin “became part of something almost like a farce.”

Gen. Pacek: It was the day of Putin’s great disgrace

General Pacek said that “Prigozhin was preparing for something bigger, he was gathering some supplies, and Putin must have known about it.”

When asked why the Russian president did not react, he replied that “Prigozhin is an unpredictable man, it is not the first time he shows that he says one thing and does another.”

He added that the whole situation was “Putin’s embarrassment”. – It was a day of Putin’s great disgrace, various services that discredited themselves at the level of the Kiev disgrace a year ago, acted disgracefully, and also disgrace to Prigozhin himself, who left his people in the middle of the road – he said.

At the same time, he said that “perhaps Putin acted the most prudent of all the options he had.” – Because starting the war with Prigozhin, he had to reckon with the fact that the Russian army – at least in part – would join Prigozhin – he added.

General Pacek added that “it was Putin who made Prigozhin a hero”, by, among other things, publicizing the activities of the Wagnerians in Bakhmut. “Putin lost honorably, he compromised himself, but he avoided what might start some serious riots in Russia,” he said.

“I think Prigozhin’s fate is clear, but not necessarily now, not necessarily tomorrow, not necessarily in a month,” the general added.
