The head of US diplomacy, Antony Blinken, said the Taliban must earn the recognition of their government by the international community. Russia will be represented at the inauguration of the new Afghan government by its representatives at the embassy level, announced Valentina Matvyenko, speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament on Wednesday.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is in Germany on Wednesday, said in a press conference with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas that Washington was disappointed that the new Afghan government consists entirely of the Taliban and their close associates, although it was supposed to represent religious minorities and ethnic country.
In addition, the US is “equally concerned about the connections and the past” of some members of that government on the UN sanctions list. He stressed that “any legitimate recognition (of the Taliban government) and any support” would have to be earned by the temporary government established by the Taliban.
Antony Blinken accused too the new authorities of Afghanistan o obstructing further evacuations from the country and assured that the US “will do everything in its power to resume evacuation flights.”
Russia will send diplomats to the government inauguration in Afghanistan
Russia will be represented at the inauguration of the new Afghan government by its representatives at the embassy level, announced Valentina Matvyenko, speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament on Wednesday. According to her, it is now too early to draw any conclusions about the new Afghan government, while the working dialogue should be continued.
– The Taliban control the entire territory of Afghanistan and today it is the new government of this country. These are facts that cannot be denied – said Matvyjenko. According to the head of the upper house of the Russian parliament, it is necessary to wait to see how the Taliban will rule Afghanistan.
– How the state will be organized, how they will behave in the country, how they will build international relations, all of this will turn out over time. This government will be monitored for compliance with civilization standards and women’s rights. Based on this, we will draw conclusions and build relationships – she said. – But this does not mean that there is no need for dialogue and working contacts – she added.
The TASS agency reminds that by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of February 14, 2003, the Taliban movement was recognized as a terrorist organization and its activity in Russia is prohibited.
