Russian oligarch Viktor Kharitonin paid $20 million to buy Frankfurt-Hahn airport. This is one of two agreements for the purchase of the airport that are being considered by the company’s creditors, the “Bild” daily portal reported.

Charitonin’s company NR Holding and the real estate investment group Richter Group from Mainz have already signed contracts for the purchase of the airport independently of each other and also transferred the purchase amount, the dpa agency reported. However, the company of the Russian oligarch paid more – 20 million euros, which had already been deposited in a special account.

Charitonin is a proven friend of Putin, with great contacts in the Kremlin, a businessman and investor who has made a fortune estimated at around EUR 1.3 billion from his pharmaceutical empire, “Bild” reminded. The Russian oligarch also owns two-thirds of the shares of the German race track Nuerburgring. He ranks 66th among the richest Russians.

According to dpa, Charitonin is not on any European Union sanctions list, Bloomberg reported.
