– Children deported to the Russian Federation meet strangers who suddenly become their adoptive parents. And children are not property, they are not spoils of war, said International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan in The Hague.

He stressed that the Rome Statute of the Geneva Conventions clearly states that civilians cannot be deported to another country.

Karim Khan added that the Hague Tribunal had contacted Russia on the matter, but had not received a response.
