On Sunday, a skirmish between Russian and Ukrainian troops took place in the Belgorod Oblast, located in western Russia. The information was confirmed by Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR).
“An attack by opponents of the Kremlin regime in the Belgorod Oblast resulted in the destruction of a Russian army post,” HUR reported on its Telegram channel. “The unexpected attack on the positions of military units of terrorist Russia caused panic among the soldiers of the local garrison,” the statement added. HUR also wrote that the Russian army fired randomly at nearby villages.
Ukrainian military intelligence does not specify which troops attacked Russian positions there Russia. Earlier on Sunday, there were reports of fighting that broke out in the village of Tieriebrieno, near the border with Ukraine. This information was confirmed by the Russian authorities.
The Meduza website, independent of the Kremlin, reported that so far, the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom of Russia Legion, Russian troops fighting on the side of Ukraine, have claimed responsibility for military actions carried out on the Russian side of the border – including in the Belgorod Oblast. There is no information on the clashes that took place on Sunday in the social networks of these formations, so it is not clear which troops clashed with the Russian army there.
The Ukrainian website Hromadske also reported that HUR is behind Sunday’s attacks carried out using drones on targets in the Russian regions of Lipetsk and Volgograd. This information was obtained from a source who requested anonymity; Ukrainian authorities have not yet claimed responsibility for these attacks. However, they were reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which stated that on the night from Saturday to Sunday it shot down 35 Ukrainian drones over the territory of the Lipetsk, Rostov and Volgograd oblasts.
