Ryanair sues passenger: A plane flying from Dublin to Lanzarote had to land at Porto airport because of a passenger who was “disturbing order”. Due to restrictions on crew working hours, staff and over 160 passengers were forced to spend the night at Porto airport, and the costs of accommodation, meals etc. were fully covered by Ryanair. Therefore, the Irish carrier has issued an invoice to the passenger and will demand payment in court.
Ryanair is demanding exactly EUR 15,350: He revealed that this amount includes: fuel (EUR 800), accommodation for passengers and crew (EUR 7,000), landing fees in Portugal (EUR 2,500), compensation for the loss of aircraft sales (EUR 750), replacement crew costs (1,800 euros) and Portuguese legal fees (2,500 euros). Irish airlines are demanding a “return” for all this. – None of these costs would not have been incurred but for this disruptive passenger did not force us to change the route to Porto in order to protect the safety of the plane, the spokesman argues.
Legal dispute: Ryanair wanted to report the matter immediately in the country where the plane landed. However, the Portuguese prosecutor's office ruled that “since the plane and the passenger are Irish, the case should be transferred to Ireland.” – European governments repeatedly fail to actwhen disruptive passengers threaten the safety of the plane and force it to change its route – says the spokesman for Irish Airlines. Ryanair announced that it will have a “zero tolerance” policy for such passengers.
Appeal to the European Union: – It's time for the EU authorities to take action to limit the sale of alcohol at airports – appealed the airline spokesman. Ryanair has introduced this type of restrictions on sales on board the plane. – During flight delays, passengers consume excess alcohol at airports without any restrictions – he noted. According to the Irish carrier, in order to increase flight safety and prevent similar incidents, it should also be introduced at airports limited to purchasing a maximum of two alcoholic beverages at the airport.
