The population of the Iberian Rysia, which until recently belonged to those at risk of extinction of species, is record -breaking – said the Portuguese Institute of Nature and Forest Protection (ICNF).

The authorities of the government's agenda explained that thanks to the projects developed jointly with Spain, serving the restoration of the Iberian Rysia, in 2024, the previously unpapped level of the number of specimens of this species in statistics was achieved – 2401. The population of this species, as recorded, is not ceased to increase this year. However, its precise number was not specified. According to ICNF, a significant increase in the Iberian Rysia population, estimated at 280 percent, took place between 2019 and 2024. With a large increase in the number of Iberian features, the animal was, as reported by the International Union of Nature Conservation (IUCN), it stayed in June last year. deleted from the list of endangered species. In 2007, the Ecological Organization of Quercus announced that Iberian Rysia in Portugal should be considered an extinct species. Three years later, the Portuguese established cooperation with the Spanish breeding centers of this species. It was from there that the first specimens restored from 2014 came to the natural environment.
