Ryszard Terlecki, the deputy speaker of the Sejm and the head of the Law and Justice club, spoke about Poland’s relations with the European Union and raised the issue of Brexit on Wednesday. Terlecki’s words were commented on Thursday by the guests of “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 – Artur Soboń and Joanna Mucha.
Ryszard Terlecki at the Economic Forum in Karpacz, he said that “we should think about how we can cooperate as much as possible, so that we can all be in the Union, but that this Union should be what is acceptable to us.”
– If it goes as it looks like it will, then we have to look for drastic solutions. The British showed that the dictatorship of the Brussels bureaucracy did not suit them and turned around and left. We do not want to go out (…), but we cannot get chased into something that will limit our freedom and something that will limit our organic development – said Terlecki.
Soboń on Terlecki’s words: he knows what he is saying
Terlecki’s words were commented on by the guests of “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 on Thursday. Artur Soboń, deputy minister of state assets from PiS argued that Terlecki “obviously knows what he is saying”.
– He spoke about the role of the member states in the construction of the Community. They play a fundamental role because they shape what is common and what is own. They pursue common but also their own interests – said Soboń.
He emphasized that “Poland benefits from its presence in the European Union and today the balance is obviously positive for Poland”. – Poland wants to be an active member of the Union and has the right to put its demands on the European forum. The marshal’s words are rather a rhetorical figure to show that something needs to be changed, something needs to be redefined, so that both sides are satisfied with it, argued the deputy minister.
In his opinion, “what is mentioned is that the intention to leave the EU at all, wherever it appears among the rulers, is today only part of the rhetoric of the opposition.”
Mucha: we are either integrating more and more with Europe or we are going east
Joanna Mucha, MP of Poland 2050, assessed that “we have a very serious situation today”. – PiS has been trying to convince us for six years that there is a third way and there is no third way. (…) Either we integrate more and more with Europe or we go east – she emphasized.
– We joined the European Union with treaties that were still changing, but it was already a construction in which one of the most important things is the rule of law. The European Union is a community of states that are based on law, she recalled.
As she said, “you can’t eat your cake and have your cake.” – You cannot be in the European Union and not be lawful. You cannot take money from the European Union and at the same time not follow the rules of the European Union. It just won’t work, said Mucha.
