In Rzeszów, in the Biała housing estate, a fire broke out in terraced houses. A gas cylinder exploded in one of them. The services reported that there were no injuries. 20 people evacuated from the buildings before the firefighters arrived.
The report of a fire in terraced houses on Kard. Karola Wojtyły Street was received at 5:45 p.m. The firefighters initially reported that the incident affected five houses. Ultimately, it turned out that eight buildings had been destroyed.
– Initial findings indicate that a gas cylinder connected to a barbecue most likely exploded in the middle terraced house. There were no injuries, but there were property losses. Residents are trying to save the rest of their belongings – said Deputy Commissioner Magdalena Żuk, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Rzeszów.
The fire has been extinguished, but firefighters are still on site. – Part of the roof structure is being dismantled to eliminate possible sources of fire, the action may continue for several more hours – said junior brigadier Grzegorz Kaszuba, officer on duty at the provincial headquarters of the State Fire Service in Rzeszów.
Once the firefighters have completed their operations, police officers with a prosecutor and an expert will be able to enter the buildings to inspect the scene.
13 teams and 50 firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the fire. Before their arrival, 20 people were evacuated from the buildings.
