The District Prosecutor's Office for Rzeszów has launched an investigation into a fire in the Biała housing estate. The fire destroyed seven terraced houses on ul. kard. Karola Wojtyły.
The proceedings concern an incident that endangered the lives and health of many people and property on a large scale. Such an act is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The commencement of the investigation was announced on Thursday by Krzysztof Ciechanowski, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów, to which the Rzeszów District Prosecutor’s Office conducting the investigation into this case is subordinated.
On Saturday The fire destroyed seven terraced houses that were occupied by 16 people at the time the fire broke out. “The value of the losses incurred is not less than PLN 3 million,” said prosecutor Ciechanowski. An additional inspection of the scene of the incident with the participation of construction and fire experts is also planned for Thursday.
“After conducting an inspection and obtaining the consent of the construction supervision authority, the place of the incident may be made available to the injured parties,” added the prosecutor.
Investigators will still question the injured parties and are also waiting for documentation from building supervision and the building's design and information from the firefighters. “In order to determine whether the building met the standards specified in fire safety regulations,” the spokesman for the prosecutor's office said.
“An investigation is underway in the case, no charges have been brought against anyone so far,” the spokesman stressed.
