Rzeszow, Przemysl. The police arrested four people suspected of extorting more than PLN 2 million

Police officers from Rzeszów dealing with economic crime have detained four people who will be charged with tax crimes and extortion of European funds. According to the investigators, over two years the suspects extorted more than PLN 2 million.

The investigation in this case is conducted by policemen from the Department for Combating Economic Crime of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Rzeszów under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemyśl. As Commissioner Piotr Wojtunik from the press team of the Podkarpacie police reported, it concerns extortion or attempted extortion to the detriment of the State Treasury VAT and European Union funds managed by marshal offices of the following voivodeships: Podkarpackie, Śląskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie.

Four people were arrested

The suspects are – according to the Podkarpacie police – two 47-year-olds and two women aged 39 and 35. They are all residents of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. hers economic activity in the form of sole proprietorships and commercial law companies, they conducted in the Podkarpackie, Śląskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodships.

On April 20, these people were brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemyśl, where they were charged with extorting property of a significant value and committing tax crimes and to the detriment of the European Union.

They were to introduce fictitious invoices into circulation and extort tax

– The disclosed crimes consisted in the creation of such legal and tax situations by the suspects, as a result of which it was possible to introduce fictitious invoices into legal circulation, and then apply to the tax offices in the Podkarpackie Voivodship for tax refund VAT. The fictitious documentation was used to obtain European funds from the marshal’s offices as co-financing for the implemented projects – described Wojtunik.

One person in custody, three in police custody

With regard to the three suspects, the prosecutor applied preventive measures in the form of police supervision and a ban on leaving the country. One of the men was sent to prison for three months.

Property in the total value of PLN 13 million 297 thousand was secured against the penalties and the obligation to repair the damage, in the form of i.a. real estate, shares in companies and cars.

The case is ongoing and further arrests are possible.
