He was recently illegally sentenced to 20 years in prison for three brutal rapes. Now he faces life imprisonment.

The trial before the District Court in Rzeszów is scheduled to start on Thursday. He will also be charged with rape and violation of sexual intimacy

In the same trial, Artur R. will also be charged with rape and violation of sexual intimacy of a woman he met through a website containing personal and erotic advertisements. This case was attached to the indictment regarding the murder of a psychologist.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the man allegedly used violence against the victim and raped her, threatening to kill her. He also recorded her naked image during sexual activity with his mobile phone without the woman’s consent.

During the investigation, R. did not confess to the crimes he was accused of. He provided explanations regarding the charge of murdering the psychologist, but he refused to provide explanations regarding the charge of rape and making criminal threats.

Experts: he is sane and dangerous to those around him

Artur R. was examined by experts who found that he was sane at the time of committing the act and that he could participate in preparatory proceedings and appear in court, and that he could serve a prison sentence in a prison.

At the same time, the experts indicated that R. is very dangerous to the environment and his presence in the wild poses a serious threat to people. They also found that there was a high probability that he would commit a crime again.

However, an expert in the field of sexology found that the man had sexual deviations in the form of one of the varieties of sadism, which involves achieving pleasure by raping sexual partners.

Sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape

Artur R. has already been tried in court for rape. At the end of July 2023, he was illegally sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping three women and attempting to rape one. He met women for social purposes, then beat them, choked them, threatened them with death, and robbed them of money and underwear, which he treated like a trophy.

He accosted one of the women on the street and, asking for directions, lured her into his car. Preventing her from leaving the car, he took her to one of the towns near Rzeszów and raped her there, and later took her to Rzeszów.

He was in custody in connection with these rape cases when he attacked a prison psychologist.

The commission “did not find any shortcomings”, but changes were needed

The circumstances of the tragic event that took place at the ZK in Rzeszów were explained by a special commission appointed by the Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro. It checked, among other things, whether the officers of the Rzeszów prison did not make any mistakes that resulted in the events of February 22, 2022.

The information provided by the Office of Communication and Promotion of the Ministry of Justice shows that “the activities (of the commission – editor) did not identify any shortcomings in the actions of the officers that would result in consequences.”

At the same time, the team’s work resulted in the development of recommendations for increasing the safety of officers, which have already been – or will be – introduced in prisons and remand centers throughout Poland.

Another prosecutor’s office is investigating whether any irregularities occurred in the prison

A separate investigation into the events that took place in the ZK in Rzeszów in February is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin. Investigators check, among other things, whether there was any abuse of powers or failure to fulfill official duties by the officers employed there.

As prosecutor Agnieszka Kępka, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, told us, these threads of the investigation concern mental and physical abuse of Artur R. by ZK officers in Rzeszów, allowing mental and physical abuse of the 38-year-old by other officers and allowing officers to to mental and physical abuse of the 38-year-old by other inmates.

All we know is that the investigation is ongoing in a case, not against a specific person or people, which means that no one has been charged so far. The Lublin prosecutor’s office does not provide detailed information on the case.
