In the Bieszczady and Beskidy Mountains, the visibility on Saturday is good, only weak wind blows in places. – The weather is favorable for tourists – admitted Paweł Szopa, rescuer on duty GOPR. Some mountain trails, however, may be slippery after recent rainfall, he warned.

What to take with you on the mountain trail

Mountain trails are not flat and wide paths – emphasized Krzysztof Szczurek, head of the Bieszczady Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service group. – During mountain trips, we often walk on stones or clay, which turns into mud after rain. Similar advice is given by Tomasz Górny, the lifeguard on duty of the Beskidzka Group of GOPR. He emphasized that in addition to the right footwear, it is also necessary, among others, a hat, a rainproof jacket and the right amount of fluids. Walking poles are useful to help you keep your balance.

Going to the mountains should always have a charged mobile phone and the “Rescue” application installed in it. It’s worth taking a powerbank with you.

Check the weather forecast

Before each mountain trip, Krzysztof Szczurek reminded, it is necessary to become familiar with weather forecast. – Such a procedure will allow us to prepare for a possible change in weather conditions, and those in the mountains occur rapidly – he explained.

He pointed out that if storm will surprise us above the upper edge of the forest, so let’s never run down the mountains. – You should calmly get off the ridge, because lightning discharges occur most often there – he added. Tomasz Górny reminded that in the event of a storm you have to get out of the open space. It is forbidden to take shelter under the tree due to falling limbs. Also, do not stand near rocks on which water is flowing, as it may cause an electric shock.
