The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate informed about the detection of Salmonella Enteritidis bacteria on egg shells. “The contested batch of eggs has been fully marketed,” reads the GIS food public warning.

“On the basis of tests carried out by the State Sanitary Inspection, the presence of Salmonella Enteritidis on the surface of egg shells was found” – stated in the release.

GIS reported that “the County State Sanitary Inspector in Mielec informed about the case of the County Veterinary Doctor in Dębica, supervising the packing plant of the questioned eggs”.

“The Veterinary Inspection Authority has carried out an inspection at the place where the eggs are packed. It has been established that the contested batch of eggs has been fully placed on the market. Recipients that may be in possession of the contested batch of eggs have been identified in order to take further measures to protect public health. The poviat veterinarian has been notified. supervising the farm of origin of the eggs “- reads the release.

Recommendations for consumers

The GIS indicated that a certain batch of eggs should not be eaten, especially raw, due to the potential health risk. “It should also be remembered that the bacteria present on the surface of the shells can be transferred to other surfaces as a result of contact with contaminated eggs” – emphasized.

It added that “consumption of the product without proper heat treatment or possible transfer of bacteria from eggs to other surfaces may lead to human infection and the occurrence of salmonellosis”.
