A few hours before the match began, the local media reported a very unpleasant incident. The portal “Sportske Novosti” reported that a group of about fifty young Croatian fans she attacked Polish fans. The conflict was allegedly caused and fueled by the fact that both parties were under the influence of alcohol. Ultimately, it came to blows, resulting in blood being shed.
Eventually, police officers arrived at the scene and prevented the fight from developing any further. “A group of about fifty young fans of the Croatian national team attacked a smaller group of Polish fans. There was a physical confrontation and a fierce fight, during which blood was also shed. However, the police intervened quickly and prevented an even more serious conflict,” we read. At the moment, we know that five people have been arrested. “The investigation is ongoing,” it added.
The whole brawl took place near the Hotel Osijek, where the Croatian national team was stationed. During the incident, the players were still in the facility, but they were not aware of what was happening near the hotel.
