World Championship for Marius Lindvik, runner -up for Andreas Wellinger, bronze medal for Jan Hoerl – these are the most important decisions of the Sunday competition of the Trondheim 2025 World Cup. However, the greatest controversy of the competition on the normal hill was what Karl Geiger showed. Actually, what the German showed.
“Karl Geiger. Well, they do not save on the material there, “said one of the Eurosport commentators when Geiger sat on the starting bar in the first series of competition. The day before, during qualifications, Igor Błachut and Michał Korościel joked that apparently Geiger has a habit that the main events of the season assumes a special outfit – one that he considers as exceptionally male and in his concept. This must mean loose, not tight.
In the first series of Sunday's competition at the World Championships in Trondheim Geiger – only the 15th player of the general classification of the World Cup – in this extremely loose outfit he flew 105 meters and was fifth. In the final round he attacked the podium and finished in fourth place, he lacked 3.7 points to the medal. If he won the medal, his overalls would undoubtedly become the subject of the day. And even a few next days. As it was three years ago, during the Olympic Games Beijing 2022.
Geiger did it again. Stoch suffered at the games
Then Geiger won the bronze medal on the large hill. In the fight for the podium he defeated the fourth Kamil Stoch. And instantly after the competition the world of sport was circulated by photos showing how much Germany jumped in.
The German overalls were immediately compared with the costumes of Stoch and Ryoyu Kobayashi. Stopklatki with a Pole and a Japanese in almost exactly the same positions in which Geiger was caught showed evident differences in the sizes of overalls.
– I saw this photo of the overalls of Karl Geiger … but so what? I showed such photos of such overalls [Mice, ówczesnemu kontrolerowi sprzętu z ramienia FIS] From fifty this season – Adam Małysz said in an interview with Sport.pl. And Igor Błachut commented very emotionally at Eurosport: “I assume that it does not interfere with achieving a good distance such a looser overalls. I know that the argument is that everyone is balancing on the line, but in this case the line has been exceeded. Why didn't Mika Yukkar catch it? This is his sweet secret. Perhaps he takes into account the fact that the main sponsor of the World Cup cycle is not Polish railways, but Viessmann [niemiecka firma specjalizująca się w produkcji kotłów grzewczych]. The bread is therefore smeared on that side. “
This is a joke from ski jumping
This time, Geiger's rapporteur's reporter's costume flowering with irony. “A man in a cape” – this is how the corchos announced a German in the second series. “We see that Karl Geiger did not change the overalls,” he added, pretending to be surprised. “This is a sleeping bag actually,” he said finally.
Social media fans wrote that Geiger jumped in Baggy Jeans, that he had put on a potato sack again, that he jumped with a parachute, and even that he made a beer tummy and therefore had such a large suit.
Piotr Majchrzak from Viaplay approached the matter very seriously, who said that such a Geiger outfit, or rather the consent of the jury to make Germany compete in such a suit, is simply a joke from ski jumping.
Of course, all jumpers, especially those from the top, from richer representations (including ours), do everything to stretch the rules and to jump in larger costumes than the regulations allow. Thanks to specially developed movements before controlling the equipment disqualification. But it is really amazing that Geiger undergoes controls, having such excess material that when he is sitting on the beam, he bends typical of all beaks. This is shown by the comparison of Paweł Wąska with this with Geiger.
