Someone finished a five-year master's degree, has a diploma, goes to work and they say: “Oh man, but this is a crooked university”. The employer is right, but what can someone who paid in good faith and studied say? – said Krzysztof Gawkowski, Minister of Digital Affairs, in “Tak jest” about the scandal at Collegium Humanum.
Agents of the Central Anticorruption Bureau detained Ryszard Czarnecki on Wednesday afternoon. The information was provided by the spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Jacek Dobrzyński. “At the same time, his wife Emilia H. was detained in Warsaw,” he said in a statement.
As he added, “the proceedings conducted jointly with the CBA and the branch office of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice concern the Collegium Humanum.”
Gawkowski: students lost five years of their lives
Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski (New Left) said in “Tak jest” on TVN24 that Collegium Humanum students who honestly completed their master's studies at this university “lost five years of their lives”. – In 2018, 2019, the school was high in the rankings, everyone said. The problems started in 2021-2022, when (students – ed.) were in their second, third, fourth year – said Gawkowski.
– It's terrible, people have lost five years. I want to stand up for them and say that these people should also be appreciated by the state – he said.
“What does someone who paid in good faith and studied have to say?”
Gawkowski admitted that he “feels sorry for those who received their diploma in 2022”. – Someone finished a five-year master's degree, has a diploma, goes to work and they say: “Oh man, but this is a crooked university”. The employer is right, but what can someone who paid in good faith and studied say? – said the minister.
Gawkowski said that “what happened is a scandal”. – I am also saying this as an academic teacher. I have been teaching at the university for over fifteen years. During the pandemic, we had remote classes and then normal classes. I know how it all works. I know how much work it takes. Anyone who had a hand in deceiving these students (…) should be sentenced today – says the guest of “Tak jest”.
The Collegium Humanum Affair
In March 2023, with the arrest by CBA two people on suspicion of accepting material and personal benefits, the Collegium Humanum scandal broke out regarding the trading of diplomas by this non-public university.
The university was founded in 2018 in Warsaw. According to media reports, it offered crash courses that allowed one to earn an MBA diploma. Such diplomas allow one to apply for positions on supervisory boards of state-owned companies.
The credibility of documents issued by Collegium Humanum was supposed to be ensured by foreign universities, but it turned out that they did not have the authority to conduct MBA studies. Among the graduates of Collegium Humanum were politicians, presidents and members of the boards of state-owned companies, officers of special services and military commanders.
