The 2025 tennis season is gaining momentum and in preparation for the Australian Open, players are taking part in tournaments. These are played mainly in Australia, and one of them is the WTA 500 in Adelaide. There is no shortage of great players on the list, as we saw already in the first round, where Danielle Collins (11th WTA) and Ons Jabeur (40th WTA) met.
Ons Jabuer played so much that she bowed. Danielle Collins could only watch
In the hit match of the first round, the player from Tunisia turned out to be better, winning 7:6 (6), 6:2 and needing exactly one and a half hour to do so. The fact that Jabuer won against a higher-ranked rival is hardly a surprise, because in the past she was number two in the world ranking and is still among the world's best.
Her belonging to the best in the world was confirmed by the action from the first set. On Jabuer's serve, both women played a long rally in which we saw exactly nine rebounds. There was plenty of attack by the Tunisian, good defense by Collins and finally a shortcut by the American that could have ended the game.
However, this did not happen, because Jabuer not only managed to get to the ball, but also played it perfectly right over the net. She also did it so hard that her opponent had absolutely no chance to reach the ball and could helplessly watch as it fell into the court.
After this play, there was roar and applause in the stands for Jabuer, and the 40th player in the world ranking decided to say thank you. After such a virtuoso performance, she simply bowed low and could listen to the fans applauding her.
In the second round of the tournament in Adelaide, Jabuer will face Yulia Putintseva (25th WTA). In the first phase of the matches, the Kazakh woman defeated Donna Vekić (19th WTA) 6:2, 6:3 and also spent 1.5 hours on the court.
