Another heat wave is coming to Croatia. Forecasts show that temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius over the weekend, meteorologist Zoran Vakula said. The heat will be exhausting not only during the day but also at night.
The Croatian State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued warnings against scorching heat. Red alerts, the highest level, will be in force in many regions of the country until Tuesday. Particularly troublesome, multi-day heat is expected in the areas of Rijeka, Dubrovnik and Split. The heat will also be troublesome at night – DHMZ reported that on Saturday in the Dubrovnik region the minimum temperature will probably exceed 26 degrees Celsius.
The temperature can reach 40 degrees
Another heat wave will begin in Croatia this coming weekend. Temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius are expected on the Adriatic coast, meteorologist Zoran Vakula announced. “In the continental part of the country, residents will be able to breathe at least at night, but it will be hot on the Adriatic,” the meteorologist warned. “We have to adapt, because in the second half of August we will be dealing with above-average temperatures, especially in southern Croatia,” he added.
The peak of the heatwave is expected at the beginning of next week. At the end of this week and at the beginning of the new week, the Adriatic will be mostly cloudless, with even warmer nights and mostly hot days. The risk of a heatwave that can affect health will therefore be very high. The Civil Defense Directorate of the Croatian Ministry of Interior advised drivers to avoid traveling during the hottest hours of the day and not to leave without water.
– It is important to drink fluids constantly, not just when you feel thirsty. Dehydration is a serious health risk on days when temperatures are exceptionally high, and increased sweating leads to water loss, officials stressed.
