Sedzislaw. Passenger train locomotive fire. 80 people were evacuated

At the Sędzisław (Dolnośląskie) railway station, the train driver noticed smoke coming from the locomotive’s high-voltage switch cabinet. The fire brigade was called to the spot. There was a threat to the train passengers, so about 80 people were evacuated.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, when the Przemyśl-Jelenia Góra train was stationary at the platform in Sędzisław.

– We found out that the locomotive caught fire. After arriving at the scene, we found a locomotive on which the pantograph was disconnected from the traction. The smoke inside and outside the locomotive was considerable. Our actions consisted in securing the scene, reaching the possible source of smoke. We have shown that it is a high-voltage switch cabinet – said Krzysztof Cisowski from the fire brigade in Kamienna Góra.

The driver initially tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. He partly succeeded. – After arriving, we extinguished it with fire extinguishers, and then cooled the rooms – adds Cisowski.

There were about 80 passengers on the train. According to the firemen, there was a threat to them, which is why they were all evacuated to the platform. Rail traffic was closed for the duration of the action. Ultimately, none of the passengers were injured, but the train driver felt bad and an ambulance was called. He was taken to a hospital in Wałbrzych. Passengers continued on other trains.
