Sejm. President Andrzej Duda entrusted Mateusz Morawiecki with the mission of forming a government

The inaugural session of the Sejm of the 10th term, as well as the meeting of the Senate of the 11th term, took place on Monday. According to the constitution, at the first session of the Sejm, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki he resigned the government.

The current democratic opposition can count on 248 out of 460 seats in the new Sejm, and PIS – at 194. Despite the declarations of the Civic Coalition, Third Way and the Left to form a coalition, the president entrusted the mission of forming a government Mateusz Morawiecki.

In his speech last week he indicated that as a result elections parliamentary meetings, none of the committees won an independent majority. – Thus, I decided to continue the good parliamentary tradition, according to which the winning party is the first to be given the opportunity to form a government – said the president then.

During Monday’s ceremony at the palace, the president said that in his “deepest belief, it was a good eight years for Poland.” – You were in the government for eight whole years, you were prime minister for six years, previously you were finance minister and deputy prime minister – he said Andrzej Duda, turning to Prime Minister Morawiecki. The President recalled that the eight-year period began when the Council of Ministers was headed by Beata Szydło.

As Andrzej Duda pointed out, “the vast majority of commitments have been fulfilled.” – These were extremely important obligations. We have talked about them many times, and we also talked about them today, both me and the Prime Minister in the Sejm. It was a big task that has been accomplished, the president emphasized.

– I will never forget this extraordinary work with you and the ministers during the coronavirus pandemic, in the most difficult moments, when we had to make truly dramatic financial decisions about how to allocate funds (…) to save jobs, first of all. , economy. It seemed as if the state might collapse. We managed to survive all this thanks to skill and talent, and enormous strength of spirit, said President Duda.

– The Prime Minister was again given the portfolio to form the new Council of Ministers. I believe that the Prime Minister will form it, as we discussed, as he assured me, that he will find a majority that will support the new Council of Ministers in the Sejm and that he will be able to continue in agreement, not only within the United Right, but in a broader parliamentary agreement. developing the Republic of Poland – said the president.

Andrzej Duda assessed that the new Council of Ministers will have to work hard and assured of his readiness to cooperate.

– It’s worth being Polish. It is worth it for Poland, our nation and its state, the Republic of Poland, to remain in Europe. They continued as a strong, national state, confident of their own interests and pursuing their own interests. Yes, it is worth having such a Poland in Europe, because such a Poland is able to ensure the safety and prosperity of Poles. And this is the basic task of people involved in politics. Politics understood as reasonable, rational concern for the common good – said the president, citing the president’s words Lech Kaczyński.

The President congratulated, thanked and wished the new Council of Ministers good luck. – I believe that many good things are still ahead of us – he added.

Within 14 days of his appointment, the Prime Minister presents the government’s program of activities to the Sejm along with a motion for a vote of confidence. The Sejm passes a vote of confidence by an absolute majority of votes in the presence of at least half of the statutory number of Deputies.
