Two buses collided on a road near the town of Kaffrine in central Senegal on Sunday morning. As a result of the accident, 38 people died and 87 were injured. This is one of the most tragic traffic accidents in recent years, the AFP agency and the French television website France 24 reported.

Road accidents are very common in African countries. Their main causes are the recklessness of drivers, as well as the poor technical condition of roads and vehicles. Many people who drive cars have never taken a driving course but bought their licenses from corrupt local officials, AFP said.

Last week alone, at least 14 people died and 73 were injured in a collision between two coaches in Côte d’Ivoire and 18 people died in a similar accident in northern Nigeria, the agency said.
