He was released from Brazil, then went to Salernitana, kept it in Serie A and lost his job at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
From October 2023 to July 1, 2024, Sousa was unemployed. His current club is Shabab Al-Ahli from the United Arab Emirates. The Portuguese is tied to a contract until 2025, but just like in the Polish national team, he may not care.

Sousa has led Shabab Al-Ahli in just six games and, according to calciomercato.com, he may not have the opportunity to do much more. All because AC Milan are interested in his services. Yes, the second team in Serie A last season, which Paulo Fonseca managed to lead in just three games.
Sousa's compatriot has not impressed and in the first three Serie A matches he has recorded two draws and a defeat. According to the Italians, he has been censored and may lose his job in the coming weeks. The next three matches are to be crucial for his future – against Venezia and Inter Milan in Serie A and against Liverpool In Champions LeagueIf Fonseca doesn't score a satisfactory number of points, he could be fired.
Then, like a hero, Sousa could return to Europe and pull a stunt known to Poles on the club from the Persian Gulf. “He did not remain indifferent to Milan's call and could free himself from his current contract, thanks to a special clause. This would allow him to return to Europe through the main door,” we read in calciomercato.com.
And what speaks for Sousa in Milan? Supposedly his best qualities: “the ability to work and establish contact with young people and team leaders, the desire to impose his own game proposal, the ability to be in front of the cameras and listen to what the board says” – we read further. This is what the board of the club from Milan is supposed to value in the Portuguese.
For now, however, Fonseca is in the position, so the road to Sousa's potential employment is still long. However, if the former Polish national team coach's compatriot loses his job at AC Milan, we may witness a saga that is all too familiar to us. This time, in an Italian version, not a Brazilian one.
