The court in Oświęcim issued a verdict for abusing a horse and attacking the inspector of OTOZ Animals in Oświęcim. Mirosław T. was sentenced to 10 months in prison suspended for three years.
The verdict was announced by Paulina Wądrzyk, representative of OTOZ Animals in Oświęcim.
The spokesperson for the Oświęcim police, Senior Constable Małgorzata Jurecka, recalled that in January this year, officers and inspectors jointly intervened on one property in the Oświęcim commune.
– They found that the drunk owner – he had 2.1 per mille of alcohol in his system – used a whip to maim his horse. The animal was kept in very bad conditions: in a tight, dirty room; without access to feed or water. It was not taken out with the appropriate frequency. The stallion had numerous wounds on its skin. The man also did not follow the post-inspection recommendations of the veterinary inspection in Oświęcim, and also overloaded the animal, as a result of which it fell. The 47-year-old also attacked the animal inspector – said Małgorzata Jurecka.
The verdict has been passed
The case was investigated by the police from the criminal department. They determined that the man had been tormenting the animal for seven months. In May, the officers filed an indictment with the district court. In court, the 47-year-old was held responsible for abusing the horse and violating the inspector's inviolability.
Now, the first instance verdict has been passed. Paulina Wądrzyk reported that the total sentence was 10 months suspended for three years. The court also decided to take away the 47-year-old's horse and banned him from owning animals for five years. He must also pay a fine of two thousand złoty.
