Up to three years in prison is facing a 56-year-old who tied a dog to a tree in the Sępopol commune (Warmian-Masurian province) and left it without food or water. He told officers that he abandoned the animal because it “interfered with renting a room.”
On Wednesday (September 18), police arrested a 56-year-old man who was identified by the police as a suspect in abandoning a dog in the Sępopol commune, Bartoszyce district. The animal was found in July, the shepherd was tied with a rope to a tree on the edge of the forest. It had no water or food.
Owner to be held accountable for dog abuse
The dog was found and freed by a forester from the Bartoszyce Forest District. The man adopted the dog and filed a police report about its abandonment at the end of August.
The police have identified the previous owner of the animal. It is a 56-year-old from Bartoszyce, who – as the officers informed him – was “interfering with renting a room”.
The man was charged with cruelty to an animal. “The 56-year-old admitted and regretted his actions. He will not turn back time, he will face criminal liability,” the police said. He faces up to three years in prison.
