Several weak earthquakes occurred in less than an hour on Wednesday near the Enmedio volcano in the Canary Islands archipelago, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported. A day earlier, the earth shook in northern Gran Canaria.

The quake, measuring no more than 2.6, struck in less than an hour near the underwater volcano Enmedio between Tenerife and Gran Canaria. It was recorded at a depth of 26-38 kilometres.

A series of tremors coincided with a magnitude earthquake 3.8, which occurred on Tuesday in Santa Maria de Guia in northern Gran Canaria.

The Enmedio volcano, located at a depth of 2.1 thousand meters, has been the cause of major earthquakes in the past. The largest (magnitude 5.2) occurred in 1989 in Tenerife, and one of the most recent (magnitude 3.7) was recorded in February 2022.
