There is at least one very important reason to consider blocking this shadow fleet. We are talking about a hundred, sometimes more, oil ships here. This is an ecological reason. There are also enough real reasons why these ships should not be allowed for transport at sea and I hope that we will quickly reach an agreement on this matter, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a press conference.

During the press conference after the meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister Donald Tusk raised two topics related to Russia.

Shadow fleet banned

Tusk announced that during the visit of Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen next week he would like to discuss the so-called shadow fleet, or fleets of shadows.

– Ships without a flag, ships that transport Russian oil, but no one really knows or is able to document it. These ships are often in terrible condition. It is primarily about the Baltic Sea, the Danish Strait and Baltic ports, said the Prime Minister of the Polish government.

Freezing Russian assets

Prime Minister Donald Tusk also said that during the meeting with other European leaders “there was agreement that an effort should be made to use frozen Russian assets, not only the so-called windfall profits, i.e. not only interest, but also basic Russian capital.”

– We are talking about EUR 250-300 billion on a global scale and more and more citizens in the European Union, payers of taxes, (…) are saying why we should pay the costs of this war, the costs of Russian aggression, if Russian money is at our disposal. It is with this Russian money that we should rebuild Ukraine and support Ukraine in its defense, said the Prime Minister, adding that “step by step, we are getting closer to decisions that should enable the use of Russian funds frozen in banks to a greater extent, if not completely.” “.

– Not only in Europe, but also in the United States and Japan. It would be fair and very, very effective – added the Prime Minister.
