There have been two shark attacks off the coast of Florida. They occurred on adjacent beaches just 90 minutes apart. Three people were injured, the American station CNN reported.

The first attack occurred near Watersound Beach in Florida. After 1:15 p.m., a report was received regarding an injured 45-year-old woman. The woman was swimming in the sea with her husband when a shark attacked her.

– The woman is in a critical condition, she suffered serious injuries to her abdomen and pelvis, and her left arm was amputated. The 45-year-old woman was airlifted to a local trauma center for treatment, Ryan Crawford, fire chief of the South Walton Fire District, said at a news conference Friday.

Second attack

The second attack occurred near Seacrest Beach around 2:55 p.m. According to fire brigade officials, the injured were girls aged approximately 15-17. The teenagers were in waist-deep water with a group of friends when the attack occurred.

One of the girls suffered serious injuries to her upper leg and arm, and the other was injured in her foot, writes CNN. Both beaches were closed after the attacks.

Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson said during a news conference that authorities are talking to experts to see if the two attacks are unusual. – We don't think this is the case, but we want to be diligent and check it, he said. – We know that we share water with sharks. It was a tragic event, he added.

In 2023, there were 16 unprovoked shark attacks in Florida, which is 44%. all such cases in the United States. Most of these incidents are reported in Volusia County, with the rest in Brevard, St. Lucie, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Escambia and Pinellas. There were no deaths from shark attacks last year.
