The most important match in her life. Pegula revealed what she felt before the clash with Iga Świątek
No wonder the final is tomorrow US Open will be the most important match in the career of the 30-year-old American. The significance of the match is of course increased by the fact that Pegula will play her first Grand Slam final in the USA. She now has only Aryna Sabalenka. She previously beat Karolina Muchova and Iga Świątek, among others.
The importance of pressure at this level is best demonstrated by Pegula's statement after the match with Karolina Muchova.
– It was a strange night, before the match with Iga I was really nervous, but for the match with Muchova I went out with a “f*cked up” attitude. I thought it might be good to be relaxed, but I guess not that much. You feel different every day. Sometimes you go out on the court and feel great, sometimes you feel really bad. You have to deal with it – she admitted.
The match with Sabalenka for the US Open victory will be the most important event in Pegula's career. As it turns out, it might not have happened at all. The American quite unexpectedly revealed that in the past she had considered ending her career.
– I don't know if I ever thought it would happen, but there were definitely moments when I didn't want to play anymore. tennisthat I didn't know if I wanted to continue. That's what happens when you go through really bad times. I had some of those, but in the end I always came back, I always got by – that's what I'm good at,” she said.
The US Open final match between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula will take place on Saturday, September 7 at 10:00 p.m.
