The old lady didn't know her name or how she got to the bus stop. Fortunately, a woman passing by didn't remain indifferent. She not only took care of her, giving her water, but also called the municipal police emergency number – 986.
It was almost 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, when the city guards from the 7th Local Division received a report that an elderly woman with memory loss was at the bus stop on Międzynarodowy Street.
“On site, the municipal guards found a woman in her 80s. She said she felt bad and everything hurt. The guards called an ambulance to the scene. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, they tried to establish her personal details. Unfortunately, the woman not only did not remember her name or where she lived, but she also did not realize where she was,” the Warsaw Municipal Guard said in a statement.
Grandson's phone number
The guards, with her consent, looked through the contents of the bag. They found a postal order with the woman's details and a card with the phone number of her grandson. Informed that the grandmother had been found, he thanked her for her help and informed her that he would come to the scene of the intervention. The patrol officers confirmed the woman's details and that she was wanted as a missing person. The paramedics from the ambulance service, after examining the elderly woman, determined that she did not require hospitalization.
– Whenever we receive such a report, we treat it as a priority. Elderly people require special care. I have already undertaken many such interventions, which ended with the happy return of the lost person home – reports Senior Inspector Piotr Pomarański, who carried out the intervention together with Inspector Jerzy Hoffman. And this time, the adventure of the elderly lady ended happily.
We would like to remind those caring for seniors and people with memory disorders about the importance of equipping them with iCE cards with the telephone number of someone to be notified in the event of problems for the card holder.
