Miss Dorothy was 33 years old. With a dead fetus in her belly, she died in a hospital in Nowy Targ. Roksana is now in a hospital in Bydgoszcz and is afraid that her story may end the same way.

Dorota Lalik’s family – a pregnant 33-year-old who died in a hospital in Nowy Targ in May – told the reporter of the “Attention!” TVN, what trauma he faces. – (Dorota – editorial note) went to the hospital. She went to the place where they were supposed to help her. She did not go there to die – said Ilona Adamczyk, cousin of the deceased. Dorota reported to the hospital in Nowy Targ when her amniotic water broke. – We talked to the doctor on duty there, he told us that there is no chance if the wife will just lie down – says Marcin Lalik, husband of the deceased Dorota.

On the third day in the hospital there was a sudden breakdown of the patient’s health. Fetal death was found. Miss Dorothy was blue. About four hours after an ultrasound, which she had previously been denied, she died. She was 33 years old. Director of the Podhalański Specialist Hospital named after John Paul II in Nowy Targ Marek Wierzba informs that the full clarification of the case is pending. An autopsy showed that the cause of death was septic shock. – It was only treatment with the bed regimen. It could only cause a greater threat to the patient’s life – explains Jolanta Budzowska, attorney of the deceased Dorota’s family.

Not one more?

Dorota’s case is almost identical to the story of Izabela from Pszczyna, after whose death thousands of women’s rights defenders took to the streets in protests.

Similarly, the story of 32-year-old Roksana, a patient of a hospital in Bydgoszcz, whose amniotic fluid broke 21 days ago, begins to develop. Research shows that a 24-week-old fetus is genetically irreversibly damaged and has a negligible chance of survival. As Mrs. Roksana says – doctors are waiting for the fetus to die.

The woman is afraid that her story will develop in the same way as Dorota’s. – That’s what I’m afraid of, too, that our story will end like this. Because, however, these thoughts do not spontaneously run away somewhere in this direction. Especially since I have a one-year-old son at home, to whom I want to return – says Roksana Kowalska, a patient at the hospital in Bydgoszcz.

The hospital in Bydgoszcz declined to comment on the matter, but it seems that the anti-abortion decision of the Constitutional Tribunal led by Julia Przyłębska is doing its job. – We, as doctors, make decisions about adopting a wait-and-see attitude, but we should not be the ones to decide. It is the patient who should tell me: Doctor, I accept this risk, I will bear the consequences. Meanwhile, in Poland, a woman was deprived of the ability to decide about herself, about her own body – says Dr. Maciej Socha, head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, St. Adalbert’s Hospital in Gdańsk.

In a Kantar poll for “Fakty” TVN and TVN24, nearly half of the respondents said that during the eight years of PiS rule, the situation of women in Poland has deteriorated. – (Women – editorial note) They are also afraid that if they go to the hospital, as in the case of Mrs. Dorota or Mrs. Iza, they will not be provided with medical assistance – thinks Katarzyna Knapik-Gauza from the association “Łódź Dziewuchy Dziewuchom” .

Left-wing parliamentarians want the Medical Chamber to present an action plan against doctors refusing to help pregnant women.
