Near the Bavarian city of Neu-Ulm, the police found a 32-year-old woman who had been waiting for help in a tree for over two days. She escaped there from the flood – German media report.

A 32-year-old woman from Neu-Ulm in the western state of Bavaria was surprised by floods in the forest on Saturday evening. The woman found shelter on one of the fallen trees. Around midnight she called the fire brigade, but later it was impossible to contact her, probably because the phone's battery was exhausted. In the meantime, her disappearance was reported to the police – writes the daily “Sueddeutsche Zeitung”.

After calling for help, the woman managed to climb onto the crown of a fallen tree, protruding two meters above the water. An extensive search operation, which used drones, led to the discovery of the 32-year-old woman on Tuesday afternoon.

When the woman was found, the water was up to her chest. According to police, she spent 62 hours in the tree while waiting for help. Weakened and dehydrated, she was transported to hospital. Her life is not in danger.

Southern Germany has been struggling with flooding for several days, which occurred after heavy rainfall. The most difficult situation is in Bavaria and the state of Baden-W├╝rttemberg. On Tuesday, authorities reported a fifth death. On that day, the city of Passau, where the water level in the Danube was 10 meters, declared a state of natural disaster.

In Regensburg, where a state of natural disaster had been declared earlier, residents of about 30 houses along a street on the Danube were evacuated. On Wednesday morning, a spokeswoman for the city authorities said that the water level in the river was falling very slowly.
