Prince William has expressed sadness over the death of his former nanny's stepson. Edward Pettifer is one of the victims of the New Orleans attack. His stepmother, Alexandra Pettifer, was a close companion of young Princes William and Harry after the separation of the current King Charles and Princess Diana. She often kept time and care for them during holidays, and after the duchess's death, she helped her brothers cope with the loss of their mother. William and Harry even attended her wedding in the late 1990s.
Britain's Prince William posted an entry on the X platform on Saturday attack in New Orleans, treated by the FBI as an act of terrorism. In the incident that took place on New Year's Day, several people were killed and many were injured. One of the victims was Edward Pettifer.
“Catherine and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer,” he wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all the innocent people who were tragically affected by this terrible attack,” he added.
She supported the princes after Diana's death
Edward, 31, was the stepson of Prince William's former nanny and his brother, Prince Harry. Alexandra Pettifer, formerly known as Tiggy Legge-Bourke, joined the current staff in 1993 King Charles IIIwhen he was a prince Wales.
She was a close companion of the young princes after the separation of Charles I Princess Diana. She often kept time and care with them during holidays, and after Diana's death, she helped the brothers adjust to the loss of their mother. In 1999, she married security consultant Charles Pettifer in a private ceremony in Wales attended by William and Harry.
Before the prince's tweet appeared, BBC sources at Buckingham Palace reported that British monarch Charles III was “deeply saddened” by the man's death and was in contact with Pettifer's family.
The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office announced that it was supporting the 31-year-old's family.

According to information provided by local authorities on Wednesday evening, the death toll from the attack was 15. 39 people were injured.
The New Orleans coroner gave Pettifer's preliminary cause of death as blunt force trauma.
The deceased's family said in a statement that they were “devastated by the tragic news of Ed's death in New Orleans.” “We will all miss him very much. Our thoughts are with other families who lost their loved ones in this terrible attack,” it added.
The man's relatives also described him as “a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend of many people.”
