Next Sunday, December 11, larger stores will be open. There are two trading Sundays this month. Sunday shopping in larger stores will also be possible just before Christmas.
In 2022 – as in 2021 – there are seven trading Sundays. The ban has so far not been in force on the last Sunday of January, April, June, August and the Sunday before Easter. This year, we have two more Sundays free from the trade ban.
Larger stores will be open on two consecutive Sundays before Christmas. They fall out December 11 and 18. The last Sunday of 2022 is Christmas Day. Then the shops will be closed.
No trading on Sundays
The act gradually introducing the Sunday trading ban entered into force on March 1, 2018. The act also provides for a catalog of 32 exclusions.
The ban on trading on Sundays does not include e.g. postal activities. In addition, it does not apply to pastry shops, ice cream shops, liquid fuel stations, florists, newspaper shops and cafes. For breaking the trade ban on Sundays, the penalty is from PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000. PLN penalty, and in the case of persistent violation of the Act – the penalty of restriction of liberty.
From the beginning of February, changes to the ban on Sunday trading have been in force, the purpose of which is to tighten the regulations in force so far. After the entry into force of the amendment, the opening of shops on non-commercial Sundays, which also provide postal services, is possible if the revenue from this activity exceeds 40 percent of the revenue of a given facility. Pursuant to the regulation of the Ministry of Finance, sales records are to be kept separately for each retail outlet, even if a given entrepreneur has several such outlets.
