The government has started work on a project that is intended to minimize the burden of paying sick pay by entrepreneurs, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday. The changes would apply from next year.
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, presented information on the direction and schedule of legislative work implementing payment by ZUS sickness benefit for employees from the first day of absence.
– Work has started today and we will present an appropriate project so that new rules can apply from next year, i.e. the burden of paying sick pay minimized by the entrepreneur, the Prime Minister announced during a press conference Donald Tusk.
Sick pay – changes
– We want to achieve this effect in the form of a government bill so that next year the sick pay burden can be reduced to zero or to some absolute minimum when it comes to Polish entrepreneurs – declared the head of government.
Tusk explained that currently the burden of paying sick pay, i.e. 80 percent. remuneration when an employee is on sick leave falls on entrepreneurs for up to 33 days per year. – We assume that this obligation should rest with ZUS – said the Prime Minister.
– We assume that ZUS should pay for it from day one, but this obviously has very serious financial consequences – he added. He emphasized that the government would like to avoid a situation in which the largest companies and corporations would be the biggest beneficiaries of such a solution. – This is not the intention – said Donald Tusk.
