At the railway crossing in Siemianówka (Podlaskie Voivodeship), contraband for over 1.8 million zlotys was detected. In the tanks with liquid resin there were embedded – tightly wrapped in foil and tied with a string – cardboard boxes. Inside were 121,000 packets of illegal cigarettes.
The train entered Poland from Belarus. When at the border crossing in Siemianówka he was stopped for inspection by the Podlasie National Revenue Administration, it turned out that there was contraband in the cisterns transported in 12 wagons.
Cigarettes were placed in – tightly wrapped and tied with a string – cardboard boxes, and these were embedded in liquid synthetic resin.
Train crew interviewed, cigarettes secured
– A total of 121,000 packets of cigarettes were secured. Their market value has been estimated at over PLN 1.8 million – says senior aspirant Maciej Czarnecki from KAS Podlasie.
The train crew was questioned. The cigarettes found their way to the warehouse of the Customs Department in Siemianówka.
– A case has been opened in the case of smuggling. They are run by the Podlasie Customs and Tax Office in Białystok – emphasizes Czarnecki.
