Difficulties on the S8 expressway near Sieradz (Łódź Voivodeship) lasted 10 hours after a tow truck carrying a beet harvester caught fire. – Initial losses were estimated at PLN 400,000, property worth three million PLN was saved. No one was injured in the incident, firefighters said. The road towards Warsaw is already passable.

The incident took place on Saturday around 2.44 am on the S8 expressway between the Złoczew and Sieradz Południe junctions. The services received information about a burning truck.

– There was a fire on a low-loader tow truck carrying a beet harvester. Initial losses estimated at PLN 400,000. Property worth three million zlotys was saved – described by Capt. Marcin Zwierzak from the fire department in Sieradz. As he says, the action of firefighters lasted nearly two hours, the fire was put out by four hosts of the State Fire Service and the Volunteer Fire Department.

Drivers also had to reckon with difficulties after the end of the firefighting operation. The road was blocked.

The S8 expressway towards Warsaw is passable

The Łódź branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways informed after 1 p.m. that the S8 expressway towards Warsaw was already passable. – A crane arrived at the site, which reloaded the harvester onto another carriage. The route towards the capital is already passable – the duty officer of the Road Information Point told us.
