Siniakova is the leader of the WTA doubles rankings. And it was visible. The match was at a very high level at the beginning, and the Czech player caused big problems for Iga Świątek with her play. However, she had trouble maintaining this level throughout the match and that is why, in the end, the Polish representative was better.
Siniakova summarized the match against Świątek. “I've been sick since the tournament in Adelaide”
It turns out that the Czech woman's uneven form could also be influenced by her health. After match she admitted that she hasn't been feeling well since coming to Australia. – I've been sick since the tournament in Adelaide. I didn't feel good there, I was coughing a lot. I went to the doctor and he said I was fine, but it affected my training – she is quoted as saying by idnes.cz.
– I don't want to look for excuses, but with this girl you have to be able to give 100 percent and be in good shape, whereas I know I had problems and I wasn't 100 percent in this match – she added.
Considering these problems, the Czech played a really good match. And she is also satisfied with her performance against Iga Świątek.
– I wanted to prepare as best as I could and I think I showed good tennis (…). I was hoping they would give us a bigger court, which would give me more enjoyment of the match. But I'm really happy that I played with Iga, it's an honor to be on the court with her. Of course, it would be better to play with her later in the tournament, but that's how it is, she said.
“Australia is cursed to me.” Siniakova is honest about another defeat
Czech journalists drew attention to the tennis player's very poor record Australian Open. Siniakova has never advanced beyond the second round in a singles tournament. – Next time I have to be spaced out. As you can see, Australia is cursed for me. This draw reminded me of who I played against here in previous years. I would say that there are some beautiful names in this group, she noted. And he's right. For example, in 2023 she played with Coco Gauff. A year earlier she lost to Anett Kontaveit. Now Iga Świątek's name can be added to this list.
Siniakova announced that she would take part in the doubles tournament despite her illness. “I feel better and better every day,” he admits. The Czech has won this competition twice so far – in 2022 and 2023. A year ago, she and Storm Hunter got pregnant semi-final. Her current partner is American Taylor Townsend.
