The Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will not be able to vote in the May presidential election, because at that time he will be on a space mission. Polish law does not provide for a solution in such a situation. – The topic amused us, although it is not funny in itself – commented the head of the National Electoral Office Rafał Tkacz.
The question about the possibility of voting in the upcoming presidential election by Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski was sent by the president of the Polish Space Agency. As he said at the meeting PKWthe head of the National Electoral Office, Rafał Tkacz, “the topic amused us, although he is not funny in itself.” – Here we are actually dealing with a person who has a problem in the light of our regulations, because he will be on a space mission at that time. We were asked to ask how to vote, “said Tkacz.
In the light of Polish regulations, there will be no such possibility. As the minister said, officials cannot “do anything except translating the mission.”
Space's problem, but real
The problem of Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski was the subject of discussion during the Monday meeting of the National Electoral Commission. Ryszard Balicki said that an American billionaire could help Elon Musk. – instead of arguing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Radosław Sikorski – ed.) He could ensure that the freight ship took the package on time and managed to come back. Then the matter would be resolved – commented Balicki, referring to the exchange of sentences between Musk, Sikorski and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
However, it turns out that this would be impossible. The possibility of correspondence voting can be used by people who are over 60 years old, with a disability certificate, or staying on quarantine or in insulation. Uznański-Wiśniewski does not meet any of these conditions. PKW members even joked about the possibility of opening the commission at a space station. However, a real solution was not found.
– Thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Poles at this time will travel on planes and ships between 7 am and 21 and they will not be able to vote either – summed up PKW chairman Sylwester Marciniak.

What in such a situation?
In some countries, for example in the USA, it is possible to vote early. The problem is that, apart from the lack of such a possibility in the regulations, the candidates who will be on the voting cards are still not known. As weaver said, the desire to vote by the Polish astronaut, “this is also a certain element of further discourse over changes in the Electoral Code, so that in such situations he can propose such a person.”
As part of the Axiom -4 mission this year, four astronauts – Peggy Whitson (USA), as the commander of the mission, Shubhanshu Shukla (India), Kapu tibor (Hungary) and Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski (Poland) will fly to an international space station (ISS).
