Avalanches – a deadly threatPAP

“Extremely unfavorable factor”

Wednesday’s accident was commented on TVN24 by Staszek Stryczula, a lifeguard on duty at Kasprowy Wierch from the Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service.

– The season is very specific, the first snow fell very early. Successive layers of snow, combined with strong winds, create very unfavorable conditions associated with a high avalanche risk – stressed the TVN24 guest.

He added that the accident occurred at an altitude of about two thousand meters above sea level, off the designated route.

– There is a saying – expert, be careful, because the flying avalanche doesn’t know you’re an expert. You have to be sensitive to any unsettling conditions, it is better to stay on the route – noted Staszek Stryczula.
