The earthquake in Slovakia occurred on Monday evening. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, it had a magnitude of 5. The tremors were felt in the east and central part of the country.
As reported by Slovak media, according to preliminary data, the earthquake occurred at 8:23 p.m., and the epicenter was located north of the town of Vranov nad Topľou in the eastern part of the country. Tremors were also recorded in many other cities, including Prešov, Kosice and Poprad.
According to the latest information provided by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake had a magnitude of 5. It was felt within a radius of 200 kilometers from the epicenter – in Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary and Romania. The magnitude of the quake was previously reported to be 5.2. In turn, Slovak media reported an estimated magnitude of 4 to 4.5.
“Suddenly all the furniture started moving”
As the websiteaktuality.sk wrote, people living on upper floors felt the buildings sway and paintings fell from the walls.
– I was sitting on the sofa with my husband when suddenly all the furniture started moving. It lasted much longer than a few seconds – reported a resident of Prešov.
– The whole house shook, the electricity went out – described an elderly couple from the village of Vyšný Žipov in the Prešov Region, a few kilometers northwest of Vranov nad Topľou. They noted that there was no serious damage.
Residents in the central part of the country also reported feeling the quake. – The whole sofa was shaking, even the keys in the lock – said one of the people living in the Banská Bystrica Region.
