The Slovak parliament passed a temporary reduction in VAT. The new rates, which will apply for the first three months of 2023, will apply to sports and catering facilities.

However, after protests related to the fact that Borys Kollar, the chairman of the parliament and at the same time the leader of the party We Are Family (Sme rodina), is the owner of the ski station in Donovaly, the scope of the reduced VAT was first extended to other sports facilities, and later also to the catering industry.
The Slovak parliament on Tuesday also passed a special 90% tax on certain electricity revenues, above the limit set by the government. The funds are intended to cover government assistance for people struggling with soaring energy bills.
