On Thursday afternoon in the Bielskie Tatras Slovakia a mudslide came down, carrying stones with it. An avalanche hit the shelter in the Mąkowa Valley – reports the Slovak website Noviny, citing the Operational Centre of the Emergency Medical Service (OS ZZS) of the Slovak Republic.

According to preliminary information the disaster trapped several people in the shelter. The Slovak television JOJ reported after a conversation with the mayor that As a result of the avalanche, two people died – a Slovak and a Polish woman.

“The mountain rescue service, two ground crews and two rescue helicopters are working on site. Some of the tourists hid under a shelter,” Slovak Noviny reported, adding that a state of emergency had been declared in the area.

As initially determined, the avalanche trapped 16 people.

The authorities of the Slovak Tatra National Park warn that in the Mąkowa Valley a landslide occurred on a popular tourist trail.

The road is impassable and closed until further notice. “You should avoid this place and not plan to hike in this section in the following days,” emphasizes the Slovak Tatra National Park.
