On Wednesday, the Prime Minister Slovakia Robert Fico was shot after a meeting of the Slovak government in the town of Handlova. According to official information from the Slovak administration, Fico was shot multiple times. The Slovak government office said in a statement sent to Reuters that Fico's condition was life-threatening. It was also confirmed that he was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Banská Bystrica.

According to the Slovak portal Plus 7 Dni, citing reports from TV Joj, the perpetrator of the shooting was a 71-year-old man from the Slovak town of Levice. Unofficial information from the website indicates that the shooter could have been Juraj C. – a writer and poet born in 1953, one of the founders of the DÚHA literary club in 2005. From 2015, Juraj C. will be a member of the Association of Slovak Writers.

Another Slovak portal, topky.sk, described eyewitness accounts that the shooter appeared to be disoriented after being arrested. According to the portal's findings, Juraj C. worked in a private security company and could legally purchase weapons there.
