Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico appeared in public on Friday for the first time since the May attack – during a ceremony in Bratislava, he expressed his appreciation for the actions of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who visited Kiev and Moscow in recent days.

Prime Minister Slovakia Robert Fico made his first public appearance on Friday since the failed assassination attempt on May 15 and his hospital stay, the dpa news agency reported.

During the ceremony in Bratislava on the occasion of the anniversary of the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Fico criticized the “liberal ideology” and praised the efforts to promote peace in Ukraineundertaken by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The Hungarian leader visited Moscow on July 5, where he met with the Russian president Vladimir Putin. Three days earlier, he spoke in Kiev with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

European Union leaders criticized Orban's visit to Moscow and the meeting with Putin, stressing that these actions were not agreed at the EU level.

Assassination Attempt on Fica

On May 15, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot in the western town of Handlova, where an away government meeting was taking place, when he went out into the street to greet his supporters.

The 71-year-old attacker, who fired several pistol shots at the prime minister from close range, was arrested. During the investigation, he testified that he had acted with political motives.
