A brown bear attacked a man while walking his dog. A resident of the Slovenian town of Želimlje was bitten on the leg. After the attack, the animal fled into the forest.
The incident took place on Wednesday around 7.30 in the town of Želimlje, which is located almost 20 kilometers south of the capital of Slovenia – Ljubljana. A bear attacked a man walking his dog, local authorities said. They added that the victim suffered a minor injury to the leg where he was bitten.
According to the Associated Press agency, after the attack, the bear fled into the forest, where trees are currently being felled.
Representatives of the Slovenian Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning reported that no search or culling of the bear is planned.
Last week there was a collision between cars and two bears. These were two separate events. One of the animals died and the other, injured, escaped, she reminded the AP. As the agency notes, a debate has recently flared up in Slovenia on how to reduce the number of bears. The authorities want to reduce their population from the current 1,100 individuals to about 800 due to the threat they pose.
Brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a predatory mammal belonging to the bear family. It is found in Asia, Europe and North America. It is not an endangered species.
